Adult Enrichment Classes.

So Craven Community College has begun an Adult Enrichment class.  Such a blast!

A little feedback from Friday night’s class:

I attended the “Pottery Night Out” class last night and want to thank you for such a great program.  The instructor was indeed awesome, provided enthusiastic personalized instruction and was an excellent instructor overall.

I want to thank CCC for allowing adults to benefit from some great enrichment programs with instructors of this caliber.   I would love to take more classes from this instructor and hope that she teaches more classes like this in the future.

Thank you, CCC and the instructor for making this experience an extremely pleasurable one.

JMU workshop.

Being back at my alma mater to lead a workshop was surreal.  Surrounded by brand new facilities, I found myself a bit disoriented.  Harrisonburg has grown tremendously and the campus has changed.  But to be offered the opportunity to teach where it all began was so invigorating.  These group of students got right into the surface techniques I demonstrated and I left feeling grateful and complete!  A big thank-you to Sukjin Choi for the invite.

Spring 2017 Ceramics I and II

As diverse as a class could get, we are just that.  Interest, skill level and techniques varied enough to maintain a nice level of chaos balanced just right with experimentation.

Montana to North Carolina.

Mountains to water.

In June of 2014 Brian and I said farewell to our home, friends and jobs in Billings, MT and embarked on a new journey to Eastern North Carolina.   Staying at home with our two young boys Richie (3 ½) and Emmett (1 ½), while teaching ceramics part-time has opened up new possibilities in my studio practice. Making is now stemming from a very real need to communicate; to just be; and to purely enjoy the making process once again. Clay feels like an old friend…but the relationship needs a bit of revisiting. In considering how to recultivate this old bond in a new studio, new community, whilst my parental role as MOM is of utmost importance, I feel it is only honest my work reflects these changes.

Each month new ceramic works with illustrations will be featured as limited editions in series of TEN.  Each edition will be written about on this blog with process, inspiration and technique in mind.  The writing accompaniment acts as a sort of extension of each piece, a part of the story, a journaling attempt.

Follow me in this journey of new clays, glazes, and imagery. I look forward to sharing these limited editions with all of you who have supported me through the years!
